Found this interesting article about a network of random number generators that is predicting the future. Pretty cool. Seems like something that would be easy enough to prove to yourself. Especially with the easy availability of awesome, tiny, cheap Linux computers.

This morning I woke up and did what I’ve done every day since November. I rolled out of bed, grabbed my bathtowel, went to the bathroom, stripped down and weighed myself. I do this every morning before my shower, and I get up at the same time pretty much every day so it’s a good judge of just how much weight I have lost each day. I’m dieting, remember?

Well, this morning I was 234.6 lbs which is 0.4 lbs under the lowest weight I have been in something like 9 years. When I tried the diet thing last year (or was it two years ago?) the lowest I got before giving up was 235.0 lbs. So, hooray!

I started at 265.5 way back in November so it’s come a long way. And it’s got a long way to go, but it’s GOING. My current goals are 230.0 lbs by March 1 and 200.0 lbs by summer. Summer in this case is defined as “The first time I take my shirt off to go waverunning.”

So, yea. Diet’s going good.

Dear Apple,

Please return my Powerbook to me. I’ve switched. I drank the Koolaid. I like things that are colorful. I need my Powerbook back. Please.

I wonder when we’re going to spread democracy and freedom to China.

My initial enthusiasm for going to the gym has worn off. Now I hate it. Can’t argue with the results though. I look better than I have in a long, long time.

Well, it seems I spoke too soon. As the Mozilla folks have been doing an awful lot recently, they have come through. Sunbird (and the Mozilla Calendar extension) now do basically what I want and I am the happiest boy alive.

It’s still a little hokey and there are some bugs, but I can definitly manage a calendar on my PCs and my Mac, all accessing the same file on a central server. I’m using WebDAV to do it. You have to jump through a couple of hoops to get it to sync up properly the first time, but after that it’s perfect.

Am I the only person that needs a simple calendar program with TODO items that I can access on Windows and Mac OS X and that synchronizes to a central server? I can’t be.

If I’m not, why the hell hasn’t Mozilla filled this need yet? It seems like every calendar program out there will let you sync to a calendar in one direction, but not both. Damnit, I need both! I use four computers regularly. Every single day. They need to be in sync. This is why I use IMAP for my mail, and Thunderbird for my mail client. IMAP lives on my Linux server and Thunderbird works everywhere that I do.
Hopefully Sunbird (or whatever the Mozilla calendar client is called these days) will fill this need soon. I feel gross sending myself emails with reminders and putting them in my TODO mail folder.

And don’t even get me started on contacts, bookmarks and notes.

Actually, hold up. It looks like maybe the newest version of the Mozilla calendar has rudimentary support for doing this over DAV. Sweet!

I need to use envelope filters to say how I feel.
